Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : More RAM=better RC5 keyrate?
I just installed 64MB, up to a total of 128MB RAM, and my RC5 keyrate shot up from around 930kkeys to 1.5Mkeys.
Bizarrely, CSC rate remains the same.
I've been running he latest client for CSC crunching on CSC since it came out, but I can't believe that the latest client boosted the RC5 processing by that much. Is system RAM such a factor in RC5 crunching?

I seriously doubt it.. as there is nothing in RC5 that will benefit from more ram (the whole program + buffer files take less than 1Mb)
Sure you didnt tinker with something else?

cant be the ram as I played with every combo from 32 to 512 and my key rate stayed the same no matter how much ram was in my system
rc5 works off your idle cpu time and nothing else

Not so fast my friends... there is an option that allows you to store the packets exclusively in the ram... I have it disabled, you might too. U96 might have it enabled... It is under "buffer and buffer update options", then "buffer and buffer packet update options.
I am not sure on this, but it makes sense that you would have a faster keyrate this way with more ram IF YOUR BUFFERS ARE INCREDIBLY LARGE...

It couldn't be that either. I tried enabling that and my keyrate was exactly the same.
Maybe you ran the DES benchmark by mistake? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

Maybe I'm mistaken in thinking that this was better than I had before, and I'm confusing it with two other machines and/or the CSC rate.
Is this rate comparable to anyone else running a Celeron 400 @ 500?
I just don't remember having megakeys before... maybe my recent Win98SE re-install fixed something http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Those sound like the gains you would get with an MMX core client. They aren't released yet for windows. Unless you have a beta or they included a partially working core in the present clients. Also the benchmark will give inflated keyrates, but not that inflated. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

My cel 360 @550 gets 1.54 Mkeys in RC5 and 690 Kkeys in CSC.

Something must have been wrong before.
My P!!! 515Mhz gets 1.45Mkeys/sec.
