"Thanks to cooperation with the CIA, we are now able to provide network communications even when your modem/network is disconnected. The only thing you need for this to work is a x10 appliance controller from Radio Shack, and a wire run from your electrical outlet to your serial port.
Here's how it works:
Upon completion of a block, the client will blink your houses's lights in a modified morse code fashion. This will be detected by CIA spy satellites, and the data will be forwarded to our master keyserver. The data for the next block will then be transmitted back to your computer in a pulsating brownout generated by a current unnamed government agency."
Is this really true? If they can do this, it's scary to think about what else the CIA can all do!!!
Oh, by the way, when will the new client be done? Silby said it was already released and will be showing up on the FTP's, but it's been 11 days now...

Hey, you never know http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif I was almost positive they weren't, but it could be some crazy thing of the future...
Is the rest true though? About the MMX core increasing our keyrate.

Well, a new CLI client was just released, but no reports of "real world" performance have come in yet.
Download it and try it out if you like - don't expect anything more than 1-2%, if anything at all though.

I downloaded the client, but it actually slowed down! I went from 837 kkeys/sec to 801 kkeys/sec...

I tried the DOS client for a few hours, and the client was reporting 2.8MKeys/s on my AMD K6-2 350@400. But I noticed that it was finishing less blocks that the old client, in the same amount of time. so I reverted back to the win32 client.

If you any of you are using the Win 32 client, make sure you use ver. .432! It's about 10-15% faster than the new version...

To get the older versions you have to search through their FTP server, I'm assuming you have Win 95/98/NT so here's the link:
ftp://www.distributed.net/mirror/pub/dcti/v2.7105/rc5des432-win32-x86-gui.exe
If you need a client for a different platform let me know.

never mind...it did it by itself.
personally, i've never seen an earlier version do a 'downgrade'. interesting.

Is the older client faster for you too? Or is it just faster for my system?

I agree- the Win32 v432 has been the faster version for me on a PII-338, PPro 233, PII 350 and a K6-2 417.

Good idea nivik! Let's put his uncle (or whoever it was that opened a store) out of business!
A Celeron @ 500Mhz. won't last more than a few minutes with the D.net client!
