It seems that there is a lack of interest in the RC5 cracking contest... We need all the help we can get! Sysopt gives you all this free information and a BBS for you to use, the least you could do is set up the RC5/DES client on your computer and let it use your CPU's idle time - it does not degrade system performance in any way and gives you a chance to win $1000! What do you have to lose? I've made a small web page explaining how to join team Sysopt/Tweakit, and explained how to allow computers without internet access to crack blocks... If you're interested please go to:
http://rc5.webjump.com/
Other contest information:
http://www.distributed.net/
WE HAVE TO PULL AHEAD OF ANANDTECH! THEY'RE STARTING TO TALK ABOUT US AND OUR LACK OF INTEREST... HURRY AND START SUBMITTING BLOCKS!

Actually, after the whole exodus to AnandTech, I don't think our people have been losing steam. I've been pretty impressed with everyone. Keep up the good work... recruit more.
Oh, and the whole AnandTech thing is dropped. History only. We both have excellent top40 teams... pretty incredible when you realize that we've both only been cracking for less than 6 months, and distributed.net has been cracking for a year and a half or so.
Good luck to Team AnandTech.
Oh, and GO SYSOPT/TWEAKIT!!! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

ok, i've got the client running on both machines...now i've got to learn what the heck this is all about.
i have one internet connection running Spoon Proxy...both clients seem to be doing it's own thing.
1st...should i configure each machine differently or will each one receive random data to work with?
2nd...am i able to become a member now or do i have to wait 24 hrs?
3rd...will the client automatically stockpile data until sending is possible?
help me with these basics and i'll learn more as time goes by
thanks

How much time does it take to complete a block.
Can this be done offline.

I run via AOL, so as you probably know I have to flush/fetch only when online. Just set your configuration to lets say 50 blocks at *31, and set it for run offline always.
then just monitor you systems daily to see how frequently you need to go online to perform your update.
works for me http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Losing interest....what? We are managing to keep up and pass teams with twice our membership. We moved up over 10 places in the last 8 days. I would have to say we have some very interested team members!!! Keep up the good work and recruit a friend!

awww...c'mon guys, you're hurting my feelings.
ignoring someone who wants to add a coupla CPUs to the effort isn't teamwork.

augidog-
1) You want to make sure that both machines are able to recieve and submit blocks so that they don't just do "random" blocks - the ones sent to you are ones that haven't been completed yet.
2) You'll have to wait 24 hours for D.net to send you your password - then you go to the joining page:
http://stats.distributed.net/pjointeam.php3?team=9742
Enter your email address as the user and the password they sent you. That will add you to the team.
3) If you set the buffers (in configuration) to a higher amount - Mine are set at 100 - you can download more blocks (up to 500) then it will save the blocks in a file and submit all of them when you go back online
Bleeding Edge-
The amount of time it takes to complete a block depends on your processor and the block size...
My P2 300 runs at about 837,000 keys/sec while a P200 runs at about 400,000 keys/sec
Yes you can run offline, just set your buffers in the config. higher and it will d/l more blocks and save them to run while you're offline and send all of the completed ones back when you're online again.
Under connection (in config.) make sure it's set to Modem Dialup Lurk - if you have a modem, then you won't have to worry about fetching/flushing It will do it automatically. If you have AOL however, you'll have to fetch/flush manually by going to Network -> perform update whenever you're online.
To everyone else-
I wasn't saying we're losing interest, I'm just trying to get the people on this message board who use Sysopt to get involved. Most of the people here don't even know about the contest because no one ever talks about it!

Joel, Just around the corner.
spdsk8r, What was that I saw you post on that other forum, don't join their team, we have more suprises around the corner. If you want to be on the best team, stay with Sysopt/Tweakit.

alright, i mapped spoon proxy...no more random blocks
set buffers to 100
did i understand correctly that the stat server isn't up at the moment?
do the blocks i've already submitted (about 60 or 70, how do i know for sure?) get credited to the team when i join?
thanks,spdsk8r

Great, glad to have you on the team! We need all the help we can get!
Yes, when you join the team, all the "historical blocks" get credited to team Sysopt/Tweakit
When they email you your password, go to:
http://stats.distributed.net/pjointeam.php3?team=9742
Enter your email address (or username mailed to you - I don't know how their doing it now) and the password they send you as the password.
Then you'll officially be part of the team!
Thanks for the help

is there something i'm missing?
my stats page said i did 194 blocks the first day...i don't think that's right, it seems high.
how can i check the client to see?
Joel Kleppinger

augidog: The reason for this is that your client does the blocks in 2^30 or 2^31 chunks while distributed.net does stats figuring for 2^28 size blocks. So, you're always going to have more 2^28 chunks than 2^31 blocks.
In response to someone's question higher up, YES, you can buffer blocks. Currently, I have a Dual 504 MHz system that I don't have on my network. I buffer 500 2^31 blocks and let the machine crack for a couple of days until it empties the buffer, then I transfer back to my main machine and flush them back out to distributed.net.
