It is disappointing that the stat server is down for so long. I guess they don't view it as mission critical.

I have to agree that it is probably hurting the overall effort since people can't get feedback as to their progress.

I chatted with David McNett on the #distributed irc channel yesterday about the stats server. He said that he is working very hard on getting it up, but I could get no estimate on when he thought that the new stats box would be ready. He said that it is not D.net's policy to give eta's on project completion. He said that it will be done when it is done.

I agree that the stats do not seem to be mission critical to the d.net guys, yet I really don't know what their position is on this. I guess that the most important things are client software and key servers. I hope that the stats come back up soon as I have added a few machines in the past week and I want to see how they are doing.

Well, as of about 10 minutes ago, the stats database on tally is now
completely up-to-date. Flood-filling in the back logs provided a great
opportunity to ferret out the bugs in the new daily.pl wrapper script
that handles the logistics of a daily update.

A full daily update is taking just the other side of an hour on the new
hardware, so I think you'll all be pleasantly surprised when it goes into
production.

What happens next (well, some time this week...) is that I need to
physically relocate the machine to best.net where it will have the
bandwidth it needs to feed all the stats-mongers out there. There also
remains the minor detail of porting all the old code to php, which will
take a good bit of labor as well.

I would expect to continue to see new and interesting "demo" type pages
show up throughout the week, reflecting live data. Especially after the
relocation. Thanks again for all your patience. We're working on this
as fast as we can.
