hello all, i have two computers in my room that i wish to network to eachother to share internet access that also allows me to play online games on it. i have used winproxy in the past, but have recently reformated my computer and it worked well enough (used demo that was only good for a month), but i would prefer to use a freeware program.

both computers have win 98, and i plan on having my main computer running the server. i have a cable modem which runs into a network card on my main, and hat computer has a second network card that is connected to my secondary computer.

my question is, does anyone know which proxy server is the best for my situation, i would prefer a freeware, but willing to try anything.

thank you for your help,
lkoa

Just a suggestion, but I would try a free firewall program by SYGATE (http://www.sygate.com)
I think it's a great program, it's easy to use and the price is right...

I agree a firewall is useful..but to answer your question, the AnalogX (http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network.htm) program is free, and pretty easy to configure..there are problems with icq ..or last time I looked there was..the other idea is Freesco (http://www.freesco.org/) which requires a 386/486 computer..does NAT/port forwarding and much more..

I have used the AnalogX proxy and it is a very tiny and efficent program that is easy to setup up and use. I would recommend it. I have not used the Sygate program tho so I can't compare them.

Depending on what kind of other stuff you do you may want to try Proxy+ (http://www.proxyplus.net). It was fairly easy to setup and has mapped ports (which I like Alot).
You can also restrict access to that proxy to only the IP's you want.
It is Browser configorable, Built in WWW Server, and many other things.

I have used it for a week or two now and like it alot more than AnalogX's Proxy.

Personally not too sure about the proxy server progie but I would ALSO have to strongly reccomend a good firewall program.. I personally use ZoneAlarm Pro, but you can get the Zone Alarm 2 proggie free for personal use from www.zonelabs.com
