Does Aol own themselves or are they in turn owned by a much larger company?
may have stuck my foot in my mouth....I'm not really sure but I think they're owned by a some HUGE corp..
can someone clear that up please, a search on yahoo just says they have 22 millions subscribers, and how much they grossed ect.

Thanks anyway, I know they suck, i used to have them for my only internet access- well netzero or aol.
I was arguing with a friend about how only a few large companies own almost all the news outlets.
I thought the fcc was supposed to stop that?
anyway Aol and MS were going at each other a month or so ago over the IM thing....
Is aol the same size as MS?

I think AOL merged with Time Warner a while back. I would guess that Time Warner owns AOL and not vice versa.

Microsoft has to be MUCH bigger than AOL. AOL is simply an ISP with a lot of subscribers. Microsoft, on the other hand, is a HUGE company. They make tons of stuff: game accessories (Sidewinder controllers, etc), games (X-Box soon), very popular software (Office), browser, OS, computer accessories (Intellimouse) and whatever else I haven't thought of.
Glad you're aware that AOL sucks http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif.

Time Warner, thats what I thought too, but wasn't sure. Now doesn't Time Warner own alot of CableTV and regular TV stations?
Who owns CNN- is that Ted Turner? does he also own an isp?

To my recollection, Ted Turner owns about 3/4 of our Southern States and a couple government officials as well. I'd say Al Gore is under suspicion http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif He owns just about anything you can think of.

I believe AOL is "owned by themselves," as you put it. Remember the days when it was Quantum Link (I used a c64 to access it)... and the hourly charge to chat? hahaha Blew a lot of allowance/odd job money on that one (young teen then).
Also, I don't think AOL and Time Warner merged. I believe that AOL bought Time Warner outright, which is a little different than a merger.
http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Have a good one!

muddoggy is correct. AOL bough Time warner outright!
And I own some of AOL, 1500 shares to be correct!

Geez, now doesn't Time Warner own a zillion tv stations?
What I'm getting at is how much control over the news do these guys have?
Just read a book by David Halberstam- "The Powers that Be"
Its mostly about news media wielding more power than the national govts of the world.
the book is kinda dated- its from before there even was an internet, but now its even more important.
the Internet's news can be controlled even easier than network news...
Big Brother is already here?
