I see we have 8521 members. and at a average cost of 20.00 a month. that is a lot of money paid out to someone. I know some of you all pay more and some less. I pay 19.95 a month or 50.88 a quater. the owner is a friend of mine ect.
so the question is. how much do you pay and do you fell it is worth it. I saw some where some countries are paying over 50.00 a month for 33.3 service and glad to get it. I'll try and find the site for you all.

I pay 40 a month for cable modem service, around 200k/sec. Absolutely worth it. Its not just the upgrade in speed that is the big part; its the always-on mentailty of it. I am an American and as such I am impatient and with this there is no waiting to sign on.
I pay about $43.00 Cdn a month for the high speed edition. Its a lot quicker than 56k, I think its worth it! I would like to try cable though.

I am currently paying $18 US per month for a 56k dial-up. I am seriously debating on whether to keep it, as I am growing to hate my ISP (too may users + not enough connections = mad Robert!!).
I have access to cable, but it is with the same sorry company and it's only one way. ADSL has made it to my area, but still costs $70-90 per month for a decent bandwidth. ISDN is also too expensive in my area for home use.
I have found a company that offers satallite connections dirt cheap. You have to spend ~$400 for the equipement, but have service plans starting at $10 a month. For that $10 your gauranteed a minimum of 5KB/s download, with upto 60KB/s being common. Considering my 56k has problems getting better than 5-7KB/s, this seems to be a good deal.

$49/month (Canadian $$) for a cable modem and up to 4 ip#'s.
I have 3 computers on it and couldn't go back to dialup. Always on and always fast is the way to go.
That'd be about $35 in US bucks.

ADSL = $49.95/mo
PacBell DSL line charge = >$10/mo
Good deal, shadow; I get only one IP - and that's dynamic. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif
But I wouldn't go back to dial-up! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

$39.95Cdn/mo for @home and it's worth every penny. Fassssst connection, five e-mail addresses and 5mb webspace allowed for each address. I like the fact that it's there all the time...no dialup hassles, etc.

$39.95 for cable, 500K down, 250K up. Well worth the price. If I ever have to go back to dialup, suicide may be an option. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

39.99 DSL 512K up/down http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Dynamic IP http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif but I know how their "leases" are setup and with how my network is setup I've had the same IP for almost 2.5 months now http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif (but I'm going to start paying for a "true static" IP as I need it for WORK (VPN tunneling) So I can do more stuff from home!

£0.00 per month.
BUT I do pay for local rate fone calls when I access the Intenet from home - min 5pence, 1p/min off peak (after 6:00pm).
This is for a 56k modem, which I h8 'cos the times I want to use it (cheap r8), it's slow as hell.
It's acceptable first thing in the morning @ the weekends before everyone wakes up.
ISDN (hehe It Still Does Nothing http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif ) is available, but the cost vs. increase in performance is not worth it, IMO.

£10 a month for unmetered 24/7 on 56k

$0.00
Freewwweb, Worldspy, and (Juno at least once a day to enter the free Palm Givaway).
Juno is usually fastest but it has an irritating banner, the others don't. Worldspy bogs down in the afternoons and early evening. Freewwweb is consistant 24/7 , but has a limit.
I don't use their email, as it's too slow. Hotmail is too Hot.
Usually they all test out about 24k. Slow for sure, but the fact that they are free and accessable, is the cure for those woes.
I know a lot of people that pay $20+ US per month for the same type of service. I'm just lucky to have local access numbers.

$39.95 per month for PacBell DSL. It's rated at 1.5mbps down and 128kbps up. Dynamic IP though...
The service itself is great, but God help you if something goes wrong. Pac Bell customer service is an joke.

I'm with this phone company who give you free internet access with their ISP. My last phone bill was £5.82, which is $7.52. I only get free internet calls from 6PM - 8AM weekdays, and all weekends as well.
Remember I said that I was getting ADSL, well I cant wait 6 months for it any more so I'm getting a Cable Modem instead. It costs £40 a month for cable internet in this country, and also I'll have to pay about £9 a month for cable subscription.

Currently I have Earthlink Dial-up (56K), $20/month, it's a great service, I've had it since November of last year. 90% of the time I always get a good connection, no boot-offs.
But since we got Digital Cable from Time Warner, I'm really thinking about getting Road Runner Service. I live in San Antonio, TX...so we basically have access to most services including DSL, $$ is the big factor considering we don't have much of it right now.
Im going to check around and see if there are any good deals, but for now, its the average 36K/s received, 4.8K/s sent speeds!
Oh well.

Sorry, I already posted something similiar in another section, but I saw a demand here too so...
Most of you wanted free dial up?
I found www.freedsl.com (http://www.freedsl.com) and www.inyc.com (http://www.inyc.com)
They both give you free dsl! I think they have the same banner thing though. Im not quite sure. I hope that helps you all!

Whoa, looks like I win (not including you free people http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif )!! $29.95 + tax = $34.44 Canadian for @Home! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif PLUS I only have to pay $10/month for May-August (some kind of student special!) Waaaaaaay cool! I was gonna try ADSL by Bell Sympatico, but it costs way more here ($39.95). Looks like they improved their router problems too! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif But the savings I get from Cable modem go to Cell phone bills anyway :/
