i went to my computer and right click on "c" drive to sharing. checked off shared as it has a c in box that say share name.
access type checked off full.
i put in a password.
i did this to both computers.
when i go to network neighborhood on system A it only has entire network and a error message that says
network is not accessible.
and the other has
entire network
robin's system-B
robin-A
there is a hand on the "c" drive on system A. in my computer.
there is a hand on the "c" drive on system B.
when i go to system B and click on system A in network neighborhood i get a message that says
computer or shareware name could not be found make sure you typed it correctly and try again.
how do i access files from one computer to the other.
i am trying to access my music folder from music match. is this possible?
where did i make my mistake?
was i supposed to give each system a name where it say share name in "c" properties?
if yes do they both get the same name?

What OS?
If Win: do you have NetBUI installed and are they both on same primary network logon?
Have you restarted one system? (sometimes that helps me). Are the lights "ON" on both NICs? If not then your network doewsn't work, check connections and hub (or crossover).

system A
primary network logon-client for microsoft networks.
system B

What motherboards are you using? I has the same problem when I first put 3COM NICs in my VIA KT133A boards. I had to turn off PCI Byte Merge on my ASUS A7V133 in the BIOS before they would see each other. If I booted up Sys A first, it could see both machines and Sys B could see nothing and vice-versa. Neither machine could ping the other, and 'net diag' failed. The confusing part was that the 3COM diags said everything was OK, but no packets were being received.

my roomy and I have no probs sharing with win98(se), should work.
Under the network properties we have;
(Configuration tab)
'Client for Microsoft Networks', 'IPX/SPX', 'TCP/IP', and 'File and Printer Sharing' installed (and a NIC of course). Primary network logon is set to 'Windows Logon'.
(Identification tab)
make sure you both have the same workgroup name (including capitalization), make sure there are no spaces or weird characters in the workgroup name or the computer name(s).
A description is not really needed but feel free to enter what you like.
(Access Control tab)
Share Level Access Control is checked.
I have also found that sometimes it takes a couple of tries for network neighborhood to find other comps on the network, closing and re-opening several times usually resolves this.
and make sure you password anything shared!!
hope this helps a little,
ciao!
ps: I don't know if this is the best way to share between computers, NetBUI might be a better way to go, as lost-and-found mentioned, and I have heard a little of the same as well, but I know nothing about it so I can't help you there!

To install net bui go to network properties>
under configuration tab click "add" > protocol > microsoft > net bui.
Here is your main problem: the PCs don't have the same logon. Use one or the other but they must be the same on both computers.
Sorry that I took so long, but I got grounded from the PC for 2 days.

Word of warning guys: NetBEUI is great to setup because its so simple, but it is a non-routed protocol - which means that its lovely and fast for cross-over connections or VERY small networks as there's no messy addressing information, but has a tendancy to flood the network when you do big file transfers from one computer to another - making th erest of your network kinda dead for a while - use it by all means, but if you're trying to work on a third or fourth computer on a local network and your collision light is up on your hub the whole time, do yourselves a favour and add NetBEUI to the top of the list of likely culprits (and the usual suspects like Half-Duplex/Full Duplex mixes, etc)....
laters all,
LostBok
