Al alfaguy 05-17-2000, 06:37 PM Does anyone out there have any AS-400, RPG, EDI experience? Or am I getting WAY over my head in this. They are willing to train for the right person. alfaguy 05-18-2000, 12:48 AM Anyone out there have any EDI eperience, Sterling, Harbinger, Gentran trained?? Im going for an interview tomorrow at a company thats looking for a good techie to be molded and trained, in EDI, AS-400 and multiple other WEB stuff. Im working with a recruiter and Im the only candidate in the pool currently. I lose my current job on Fri, after a 6 week notice. I have another offer for a Healthcare company (2 man MIS Dept for 200 people), but this new one sounds FABULOUS. 4 person IT staff, HQ for company and only 31 people. Wish me luck. If I get this I have to wring as much as I can out of it(training and certifications) 5k salary increase plus 10% bonus. and stock options. WOW. tonym 05-18-2000, 06:24 AM Alfaguy, What makes you think that you're in over your head? Your prospective employer doesn't seem to think so. And the offer of training is always a message that they've found the RIGHT person. The key to successful employment isn't what you know (per se), it's what you're capable of of and what you CAN learn. If companies hired people strictly for what they knew...bang, no progress. Treat this as a potential learning experience for yourself. And listen, your personality and people skills go a long way in making you the RIGHT candidate. Don't sweat the details UNLESS the details are very important to the employer. The only thing separating you from the AS-400, RPG and EDI experience are a few books, a couple of classes and some intense internet surfing. Just be confident that you can do the job for them given the proper training resources, and I think it's yours!!! Good luck and go get 'em... Tony Jal 05-18-2000, 09:11 AM If they are offering you training, then you have nothing to worry about. AS/400's are nice Sterling is the EDI Mailbox company Harbinger is the Consulting company that helps with EDI Setups and such. GenTran is the program suite on the AS/400 to send/grab/process all the EDI stuff. A lot to learn, but if they are training, it will be fun. alfaguy 05-18-2000, 03:32 PM I got back from the interview about 2 hours ago. I think I wowed them, The MIS Director seemed impressed and proceeded to introduce me to the rest of the staff. Actually had interviews with 3 seperate people. Sounds like they are are interested, they knew my needs from speaking with the recruiter. Benifits include, salary plus 10% signing bonus, end of year bonus 2-5%,Season tickets to the Yankee's 4 tickets for 4 games box seats by 1st base, tuition reimbursement for technical and advanced degree classes. Ability to work from home via my DSL connection. I'll find out tomorrow when I go back to meet with the President and the final offer. Wish me luck. bthom70 Mntsnow 05-18-2000, 04:39 PM Sounds like a sweet package http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif My fingers are crossed for you!! Mntsnow SysOpt.com
