I'm planning on building a system around the AMD K6-2 500MHz and the Tyan S1598 motherboard which has an AGP port. I 'heard ' that there have been problems with this cpu and APG in general.
Is this known to be true? Does anyone have this setup and can anyone recommend a good video card for this configuration?
Primary focus for this system would be Flight Simulator ' 98 or possibly FS 2000. No gaming.

Hi,
I haven't heard about k6-2's having problems with agp cards!!
It isn't the most powerfull cpu in combination with an agp card, but it should do fine!!!
I used to have a viper550 agp on my p5a-b, and it rocked for me.
I don't have the viper anymore, for I was a little too enthusiastic o/c'ing it, so it started gittering!!!
I now have a voodoo banshee pci, which is more suitable for o/c'ing a cpu!!!
Pim.
BTW, I think this post will very soon be re-directed to either vid cards and monitors or cpu and o/c'ing.

I've read that TNT, TNT2, and Geforce cards don't along with Super 7 motherboards.

The problem stems from non-Intel spec AGP controllers found on super7 boards. The early revisions and bad chipset drivers did commonly lead to several AGP problems. Most of the issues have been resolved with the release of better motherboard driver sets. If you want to best AGP compatilbity for your k6-2, make sure you get a motherboard based on VIA's MVP-3 chipset. VIA releases new driver sets for their AGP on a regular basis, and has corrected most of their problems.
ALI's socket7 AGP suffers from several hardware issues, and still present a problem to a large number of users. The latest ALI AGP drivers did fix several issues, but they are seriously lagging behind VIA in AGP support.
Hope this helps,
Robert Richmond
