For those of us still in high school, this is potentially bad. AOL announced that they are now offering free service to schools. Ugh. Just what I need - mackys and awol.

That's just pure torture. It'll make the school even more like a prison than it already is. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

But critics said the venture may not be as altruistic as it appears. wtf??? They're giving away free internet. Anyway you slice it, it's generosity. Not all highschools have high speed internet access. Some of them don't have any. Why is CNN so quick to bash them? I may not like their service but free AOL is better than no internet period.

IT is better than nothing. I am sure other ISP's will follow suit.

'spose it's better than nothing. I'm glad I'm not forced to use the comps at school. The joys of owning your own computer http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif.

I do feel sorry for those less fortunate than I http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif.

That would definately be bad for some, though, I know for a fact that they won't install AOL onto our computers, I along with the other technicians do not care for AOL that much!! And we have our own free internet! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

i think its a good idea for lower classed school districts. It gives kids an opportunity to surf the net when before they could not.

Not all schools will go with it, i know most schools around my area have their own connections.

Chilluns,

It's infinitely better than the 10 mile walk that I had, followed by a day of carving letters into papyrus with a stone axe and bone chisel! And then that 10 mile walk back home, usually in the rain or snow!

Of for cripe's sake, stop looking a gift ISP in the mouth. AOL isn't the greatest, but it's better than the big old goose egg. You're **** luck to get the stuff in the first place...now go use it and make us proud!

The more sophisticated school districts will simply shrug their shoulders and keep walking. We've got a dual T3 to the backbone, and dual T1's to the high schools, single to the Jr's and elementary's. (30 buildings in all) It's not always the greatest, but we'd much rather have this than anything anyone else could provide. Besides, I'm one of the guys that would have to set it all up, and AOL is against my religion http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Luckely I ain't in highschool no more!!!

Haven't been in a school building for some 4 years now!!!

I do follow a course at home, computer related ofcourse!!!
For my first exam I had a B, which here is a 8.2
For my second I got a A-, so I guess I'm not gonna fail this course, even if I got an F on my third, which is also the last!!!

Halleluyahhh, I'm aiming for a B+ average or maybe an A/A- perhaps, we'll see.
