I bought a network starter kit from Netgear almost a month ago. It came with two Netgear FA310TX Fast Ethernet Adapters plus a hub and two 25ft cables. It seemed to be fine when transfering over my network, I had no problems at all, except now. I just got a cable connection and I am getting about 150-195kbps on the two computers I put them in. Both of them are running Windows98 SE. One is 466mhz and the other is 233mhz.
Well, I tried the bandwidth test on my other computer that is 166mhz with a Netgear FA311. That computer is getting about 315-600kbps. I tried switching cards and then it wouldn't work at all in my computer. I switched them back and I was able to tansfer files but I still had the same speed problem problem. I have the most recent drivers too. I decided to run the diagnostic test on my cards and those two computers failed the Controller Internal Loopbak Test and Twister Layer Internal Loopbak Test. Still pissed off, I tried the bandwidth meter on my 100mhz computer running Windows98 with a 3Com Etherlink 10 ISA TPO (3C509B-TPO) in PnP Mode. That computer is getting 255-307kbps!!! And that 100mhz is only a 10mbps card and all the others are 10/100mbps. This really sucks.
Right now I'm gonna try a Kingston KNE100TX in my computer and see if I can get fast speeds on that. I plan on returning that whole Netgear kit but I want your opinons also. One more thing, could the AOL dialup adapters that are on the buggy computers also be causing a problem? Please respond quickly.
