ok i have 2 computers... one windows98 2nd edition one windows98. both hooked into a hub...lights are on etc. the physical connections are good. my probem is when i go to Network Neighborhood on both of them..it says "Unable to Browse Network, The Network is not Accesible"

if u need more info just ask, ive went through and did the TCP/IP protocol stuff w/ the IP's., gave them the same domain name, and stuff but still dont know why it wont let me see them.

Network Neighborhood only shows computers using the microsoft NetBEUI protocol. For games you dont need this. try your game and i think it will work just type in the ip of the server.

Network Neighborhood does not just show computers using MS NetBEUI protocol. It will also show TCP/IP and IPX/SPX.
Have you set your Subnet Mask correctly.
It should should look something like 255.255.255.0 .
To get a better idea of all of you network settings run WINIPCFG.exe, it is normally in C:\windows
If nothing works try using the IPX/SPX protocol. I find it works with most games better than TCP/IP.

One last thing do you get a logon box when you start windows. If you do and press cancel
it will not let you browse the network.

IF you are runing ZoneAlarm or simialr you also might have a problem. Try coming off the net and switching off ZA and then try Network Neighbourhood.

yeah as "hamsterstan" said you must enable the windows logon thing cant remember what its called as im at work and cant get to a 98 machine to remind myself.

to see stuff on the other machine, you have to have file sharing enabled. As far as an IP, 10.1.1.1 and 10.1.1.2 will work with a subnet mask of 255.0.0.0., this is the default mask. You must also have client for microsoft networks in the primary logon box when you right click network neighborhood and go to properties.
Also be sure that your workgroup names are the same on both machines.
Also, as Spark said, ZoneAlarm gives me problems on my network as far as being able to see other machines, so you might try as he suggested and turn it off while using your network.
