Hi there

I was wondering if you can connect to the internet with an ISDN modem, without ISDN line (usual line, 56K modem works fine)?
I can buy an ISDN internal modem at the price of a 56K internal modem (Tornado PCI).

Thanks
Vangelis

It won't work. ISDN is a digital technology, and regular modems are analog. here is just one thing required to get an ISDN connection..
ISDN requires a dedicated(digital)line to your house from the telco's CO, and you have to set up the ISDN "modem" (really not a modem, but an "adapter" since it is digital,no modulation/demodulation takes place)with a SPID, which is a Service Profile ID number. This is a number that looks like a telephone number, but it identifies your adapter to the switch as to what kind of service you have. If you have 128K ISDN(dual channel) you have to set up a SPID for each channel.
ISDN call setup is also extremely fast compared to analog, usually about a second or two to make the connection. It is usually pretty expensive also.
