In my registry, under HKEY_USERS, .DEFAULT, there is a key that says "identities". Does anyone know what this is for? I'm pretty tempted to delete it.

That is if you have more than one person login to the machine. Don't screw with the registry if you don't want problems http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif Can be a big mistake. I was reading on the registry on www.computingcentral.com (http://www.computingcentral.com) Also, if you want to clean the registry, there are lottsa good programs out there to do it, I like Norton WinDoctor the best.

actually this isn't related to profiles that are set up on the system, it is related to what identities are set up in Outlook Express. the information in that HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Identities is actually mirrored from HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities and it keeps track of what identity was last logged in to OE, who the default identity is, etc, etc. one of the more common problems with OE is that sometimes it gets corrupted and when you try to open it up either nothing happens at all or you may just get an hourglass for a split second and then nothing ... that is caused by corrupted information in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities key and to fix it you just highlight the Identities key and then remove all data from the right hand pane in the registry (except for (Default) (value not set) and then close the registry and open up OE and it will open fine. just an extra bit of info for ya. but just FYI, i'd leave that key there bro.

cheers,

Thanks for the advice. Guess I'll just have to find something else to delete! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif
