This is probably a dumb question but I can't find the answer anywhere. I have an older Intel NetPort II print server. The newer Intel NetPort Manager software was designed to not detect the server. I have the MAC address of the server (printed on it thankfully) and my question is -- is there a way to bind a IP address on my Win2K pro machine directly to the MAC address or will it all get lost in the chaos of the Ethernet? On Linux it is easy to do with a script, but Micro$oft doesn't seem to document it anywhere. Even just a little direction would be nice.
Or is there a way to sniff the ip address of the server directly?

I haven't used the Intel NetPort II print server but with HP JetDirect cards (aka print servers) you can print a configuration page to show the IP address.
The few sniffer programs I've used allow you to filter the results so you could filter on that MAC address.

I found out how to tie the two together using arp -s, and that works. I can assign any IP and then tie it directly to the MAC. The activity light on the print server shows packets are arriving and leaving but I think my problem is more complex than originally thought. I still can't get a reply from a ping, but I don't know that it can reply. Plus there is no test button like on the HP. Back to the drawing board.
