This utility is supposed to block the "third party" cookies that follow you from site to site, and track your browsing habits. (Like the DoubleClick cookies). Without interfering with the "first party" cookies necessary for entering and logging into sites you visit.
Right now it is available for IE 4, 5, and 5.01 (not 5.5).
I'm curious if any of the members here have tried or used this and if any problems were found.
Here is a good article about it:

Here is where you get it: http://www.idcide.com/index.htm

Hi Dave

I heard about this IDcide about a month or so ago.. but haven't been gotten around to try it yet.

I'm curious also.

I have been using IDcide for a couple of months now. I really like it and highly recommend it. I set different privacy levels for each browser page that I have open depending of what I am doing in each. If you need to allow a cookie for a site, you just click on the hat icon and set the privacy to medium. It works pretty well in stopping the tracking networks and letting you know who is watching you at each site. It has never caused any system problem and if one day it is no longer freeware I'll certainly buy it.

I'd like to hear more about this from other users her. Anyone else have an opinion on this program?

No it only works for IE 5.0 maybe 5.01 but it does not work with IE 5.5 or any version of Netscape.

It is a good little program. It lets you know what tracking software is inbedded with what sites. For example earthweb has its own tracking software that will send a request for info to your computer. That is why peoples Black Ice and Zone Alarm go off when on this site. (I can not remember the name of the company and I am not at my computer right now will let everyone know later on tonight.)

The only problem I see with this software is with sites that require cookies on the computer. If you need a cookie then you have to have it set low for example. If you are trying to get your yahoo mail then you will have problems getting the mail if you have it set to high. Found getting into yahoo mail you must have it set to med or no privacy.

Over all it is not bad software. Has caused no problems so far with my system and does not seem to take up much in resources either. (Although I have not checked to much on that one.) Just going off of how the system runs with and without it enabled.

All in all it is good software if you do not want people to know where you are heading on the net.

Thanks for your opinions on this utility, I have been wanting to try it but my test computer has IE 5.5 on it right now and my work has been taking up all my free time recently. I appreciate the input. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
