Pardon my ignorance as I usually am on Mac's. I need to connect to PC's and a printer. Both PC's have network cards. We have two ether net cords and a hub. The printer is not network printer but we have a jet direct box to make it axt as so. I understand how to set up the hardware. However, I don't really understand what to do with the Windows software once the hardware is connected. Can anyone help? I would really apreciate it.

Thanks

Go to your properties for tcpip on each card and config them with a static ip (use an ip like 10.0.0.1-10.0.0.x) also set the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 You may also want to add the netbuei protcol to both computers.

Netbeui:
http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/N/Netbeui.html

Basically Netbeui uses names instead of IP addresses to identify a node on a network.

www.homepcnetwork.com (http://www.homepcnetwork.com) is a good source for this. You'll need a crossover cable, File and Printer Sharing over IPX/SPX, and the printer hooked to one of the computers for the easiest/cheapest setup.
