Virii Protection

Perhaps one of you most capable readers can tell me the answer to this little question.

If I have Norton AV, ZoneAlarm etc. on the gateway computer, is the remote computer on my modest network protected from Virii etc., when it is on the net or does it require its own protective clothing???
