I have a home network connected to a Linksys BEFRS41 Cable/DSL Router. I currently have 4 systems running on it. One is Win2k, RedHat Linux 7.0, Win98, and WinXP. Here's the scoop. I have a ftp server running on the win2k box. I forward the port 20~21 to the LAN IP address of the win2k box. that works great. so now i have the linux box that i want to be able to ftp into remotely to upload files. so i tried putting it on port 38~39 so that it wouldn't conflict with the win2k box. put pasv mode on the ftp client 'im using to connect and i connect fine, but no directory listing. so i put the linux box in DMZ mode. connects fine with ports 20~21, but not with any others. same symptoms, connect, but no directory listing.
i called linksys and they say there isn't a way to have 2 systems using DMZ. This didn't make sense to me, but i didn't argue. my question is....does anyone know of a hack for the router, or a way to get the linux system to function properly with pasv mode or with ports other than 20~21? thanks for any info. =0)

What port are you using for FTP to the linux box? I'd try ftping to the top one and the bottom one should be the back channel. The problem you describe is what we've seen when the back channel is not working.

You also might try shutting down the 2k FTP server to see if you can forward to the linux box successfully on the standard ports. Linux may function differently, especially when NAT comes into play.
