I'm in the middle of getting DSL for my home. I have a small LAN w/2 computers always connected and room for a few more (including a laptop occasionally plugged into it). My DSL provider is going to be giving my a static IP address to use. They're also providing a DSL modem/gateway (Telocity is the provider I'm going to use) that can be plugged into a USB port, a NIC or a serical port. I want to share the DSL connection with any PC's on the LAN. I was told that to do this with ICS and would need to install another NIC in the main PC (so that it had two NICs), one with the static IP adress and one with an ICS address (or something like that). What is the best way, under these circumstances, to share the connection? Can I use the USB interface and still share the connection and use the static IP address? I'm a bit confused on this subject. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Unfortunately with ICS you can't have the modem plugged into your USB port... your only real options are to get another NIC or to get a cable/dsl router which would do the internet sharing without the need for either computer to be on or have more than one NIC or.
Netgear, for one, has a firewall router / 4port switch. By using this router, or any other brand, you can connect to the internet and have firewall protection and connect 4 computers at the same time. This router also provides DHCP for LAN, internal, addressing. Check Http://www.netgear.com

With the four port fire wall I have (D-Link) you can plug it into a hub and with its DHCP ability it will assign IP's to each PC on the hub. Why wouldn't a single port gateway do the same if it is DHCP? all you would need is a hub
