I have been trying to set up a lan between my old pIII 600 Win98se machine and my dual boot (98se & 2K).
I have set all the IP configs to what I think is correct but it wont work.
If I run AnalogX's proxy I can share my internet connection, that works very well, excellent software.

The machines are set as below..

Win98se (server for want of a better name)

192.168.0.1 (10/100 NIC)

Dual boot

192.168.0.2 (10/100 NIC)

they are linked by a 4 port 10/100 switch.

if I ping from the dual boot (win98) it works fine, if I ping the other way I get

ping: transmit failed, error code 10050

four times, even if I ping the local ethernet port!!

I am unable to see the network in either direction. if I add netbui then it works.
Dont think I need to set gateways (do I?).
Do you think my old machine has some corrupted files?

Help

Well, I did a clean install of win98 to a new directory, configured the NICs and voila all works OK !!, internet sharing via Anologx's proxy and network drive mapping in both directions, perfik. So one or more of the files is corrupt, but which of the little buggers is it??

I have considered copying all files from the new windows to the old, not allowing overwrite of newer files, but it may be one of those thats the culprit.

Any ideas ??
