The Freenet (http://freenet.sourceforge.net/) beta 2.0 has been released. Freenet makes it possible to exchange any data, including MP3s anonymously while frustrating any attempt to remove the info or determine it's source. By deliberately setting themselves on a collision course with the world's copyright laws, they hope to produce a world where all information is freely shared. This proggy makes it possible to retrieve data withou reference to a central database, thus providing copyright holders without a single target. Copyright methods such as encryption or keycode requirements will be trumped up with similar encryption that covers the tracks of those sharing info.
A quote from the software developer: "If this whole thing catches on, people will look back in 20-40 years and see the idea that you can own information in the same way as gold or real estate, in the same way we look at witch-burning today."
What's your opinion?
