Yeah I saw that up at the car&driver site.

I don't really like too much. I'm just getting really tired of the retro style...enough already!!! If they dropped the SSR (to the ground) and got rid of the retro nose, it would be very slick! I don't really like the high placement of the side mirrors either.

Ha, I'm being pretty critical...but it's a concept, I'm supposed to be. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

They had one at the Detroit Auto Show this year. Looks kinda like an old 49-54 Chevy P.U. ÿþ

Well, Dodge is doing a similar retro look in their next pickup too, going to look similar to the powerwagon that is out now. I kinda like it, at least in that it is different.

I forgot to mention it is a hard top conv.
The first thing I would do is slam it. I have to agree about the nose and the mirrors but so far this is a concept car/truck. Instead of having a gearshift it has buttons on the steering wheel, kind of like the old Dodge that had them on the dash, **** can't remember the name.

Ugly!

If it were low to the ground maybe, but other than that it is ugly. It doesn't make sense to have something that sleek looking high off the ground like that. But it's supposed to be a truck right. Now the Chrysler Cruiser. There's a nifty retro vehicle.

First and foremost, it's a roadster, says Welburn, who is the director of GM's Corporate Brand Character Center, where the SSR — for "Super Sport Roadster" — was designed. "It's made to drive. I can see driving it in Southern California, or in Miami, or on winding roads in New England, or in the Woodward Dream Cruise [in Detroit]. The SSR is all about enjoying driving. It's that simple."

I am sure it will not sit that high, in the pic it has 19" wheels in the front and 20" in the back.

Hey Jad: Put that drivetrain in a 1988 Monte Carlo SS and you'd have something !!!! And a Hurst shifter. Push buttons sound like a potential nightmare!!! Nice color though http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

The PT (Personal Transportation) Cruiser is really nice looking. Was in one yesterday; it has plastic panels on the dash that look EXACTLY like the heavy gauge steel panels in the cars of the 1940's http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif

That SSR looks to me like it's not sure WHAT it wants to be...

BTW, the '63 Dodge Dart had the push button tranny http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

EDIT: Found a couple more:

Sorry to differ from your opinion, but that's why we're here right? To voice cour opinions?

Anyway, I think the "truck" looks like somwething right out of BUck Rogers or Flash Gordon. Looks to me like they just can't make up their minds. Just not my cup of meat... But, again-that's just me. You know, I can see that they want to have something radically different so it will get people to have it. A lot of us want to stand out, and what better way to show that, yes - I DID BUY A NEW VEHICLE than to get one that definately stands out as different.

Most cars in the 90's look very similar to the what, last 6 or 7 model years for the same car? This way it's obvious Johnny bought a new car. But, it looks a little too comical, almost like a carichature (?) to me.

Have fun though, and if you get one, I hope you enjoy it.

I liked the old Dodge vans with the shifter on the dash. I put a 440 in one of those and it was kinda hard to grab 2nd!! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Since everyone's on the retro bandwagon, Ford and Chevy would probably make a killing if they brought back the Ranchero and El Camino.

UCKI - The PT Cruiser is ugly. (in my opinion)

I like the truck better.

But then again, I wouldn't consider buying either.

My wife is a musclecar maniac! She wants an SSR. Or a cruiser (IF it had a V6). Or a Prowler (IF it had a 360). A couple of months ago, my son test-drove a 4-door Dakota with a 360. Made the mistake of letting her drive it. At least it made her forget about a Durango w/ a 360! It's cheaper, too!

And get this.... she LOVES to drive the Town Ride! Believe it or not, it's a real sleeper. Got the 4.6L modular engine. Just point and launch that puppy. That's why the bootleggers loved Lincolns so much. And still do.

Neither of us is too enamored with show. But tie us into a goer and we are in HOG HEAVEN!

Well, another monstrous, gas guzzling, pointless vehicle for the drivers of regular cars to try and avoid - we are the crumple zones for the SUV / pickups after all.

Hehe, the specs on that engine make Briggs & Stratton sound high tech! The specific power is abysmal - 50hp/litre can be easily matched by a turbodiesel and the torque's a joke: 355Nm from 6 litres? A diesel half the size could probably manage that: my 2.5 (1994) puts out 260Nm, a modern 2litre will do that. All iron block / head? Well they are going for retro, but did they have to get the engine from a 50's bus?

http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif

EDIT: even Ford quote this and they make this sort of vehicle:

The book (by Ford) even quotes a Sierra Club press release that says "the gas-guzzling SUV is a rolling monument to environmental destruction."

Same truck with a proper stance. I am glad to see they lowered it. It is a hard top convertible.

Seeing it at the right height just makes me want it more.

Lets see if I go to Boston and work 7 12's for 12 weeks I will gross $46,832.64!!! CAD(The Central Artery depression) "the largest construction project in the world",it is an underground highway. Seems like a small price to pay for such a sweet truck. Hell I may just do it anyway for the funds.

I don't want to start another car thread so:

BF Goodrich Scorcher (https://customcolor.bfgoodrichtires.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ExecMacro/ScorcherTAOnline/frames.d2w/report)

I think that pretty cool, if not slightly tacky/boy racer.
