Previously Win98SE could talk to Unix through explorer.
Removed local IP router, everything still worked.
Loaded Win2000Pro on workstation, can't find unix server through explorer. Can still ping and telnet.
We must make this work or we can't go to W2K.
Thanks,
Tim

Have you tried entering the DNS?

Do you know how you were connecting to the unix machine from the W2K box? NFS? Samba? Might just be a slight misconfiguration or missing protocol..
Have you tried mapping a volume from the unix machine within explorer?

Update:
Can see through ping, telnet, ftp, http.
Was able to access "normally" for about five minutes. I could run our software, access files, etc. Then I restarted and to see if it would keep working. It didn't.
It currently appears to be having problems validating userId and password, even the ones I used to access it for that few minutes.
As for DNS, we currently don't use it, nor are any of the servers setup for it (unless there's somethning on the unix box I don't know about).
I do, however, have to add it into the WINS config. This was the same under win9x. Beyond that, I've not had to do anything else.
Nope, no missing protocols. And one of the requirements is a mapped volume, and I get the same problem there.
What really sucks, is this worked a year ago when we first tested W2K on our system. I don't recall having done anything special then to make it work.
The message which comes back when I try to login, after up to 5 minutes, says the user could not be vailidated. It also comes back on certain users with some kind of conflict.
Any other ideas? Could I still be missing a protocol, or some special service on W2K?
My sleeves are fast running out of tricks, so, any help would be much appreciated.
Now watch, it'll be something simple!

I turns out Windows was passing incorrect login information to Unix. Our system setup allows us to use UserID translation on the Unix box. Windows 2K wasn't passing the correct userID information for this to work. Once I realized this, I tried some different approaches to the userID until I got the right one.
Thanks anyways!
