I have 2 questions, one is easy, what does a router do? The second is not as easy. I have a linksys 10/100 switch 8 port. I have been sharing the network through the uplink port which has been fine for my 5 computers connected. The problem is that the one I use all the time now wont connect to the internet. I tried to release the ip but it wont do a thing, and when I tried to renew it gives me an error message "DHCP server unavailible:Renewing adapter". I recently upgraded to win 98se which I am running on the other networked computers with no problem. Please help!!

Sounds like that machine is looking for an IP address. Under the NIC adapter TCP/IP properties, select manual configire and assign the card an IP addy
