I have a desktop and a laptop. how can I share info between the 2? As in files, printer access an so forth. I have a cable connection and 2 ips (1 for each, a nic in each and a dlink hub. How can I make the 2 talk?. Oh the desktop is running 2000 and the laptop is running 98
You need to install "Client for Microsoft networks" and "File and print sharing for Microsoft networks".
I would also recommend installing the "NetBEUI" protocol and enable "NetBIOS support for NetBEUI". NetBEUI, unlike TCP/IP, is non-routable so people from the internet can't hack into your system using file and print sharing. Also be sure to unbind TCP/IP from "File and Print Sharing" and "Client for Microsoft networks" or else you will be exposed to hackers.
My setup is somewhat similar. I've got a win2000 laptop, two win98 desktops, a winME desktop, and a cable modem all plugged into a 5 port hub. File and print sharing is working great between the computers.
Good Luck
