I NEVER tried it and never will. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif akaBruno 05-11-2000, 02:11 PM It's east to quit ... I've done it 1000's of times, within the last 5 minutes. Don't start. SoopaStar 05-11-2000, 02:55 PM I smoked for a couple of years. Quit on Janurary 1st 1999. I have cheated a few times at the bars and stuff, but I have never bought a pack or smoked two days consecutively. I hate seeing people smoke nowadays, and it ruins my meal in the 'non choking' section of restaraunts when its too close to a smokign section. It also bugs the HELL out of me to see teenagers smoking. Lets admit it, you didn't start smoking because its was good for you, or you heard 'good things' about it. Its image. Its because other cool people, or people like you parents (ppl you look up to) smoke as well. its a **** shame. I love it everytime the Gov't puts a new tax on tobacco. its fun. Paul Prospero 05-11-2000, 03:10 PM Go ahead and smoke, your insuring my future employment. I'm a respiratory therapist, and am kept in computer parts by the tobacco industry. Just don't do it around me, I'm allergic to it and don't want to need my own services. mattheadfat 05-11-2000, 04:44 PM i've never tried smoking tabacco...i wish i could say that about crack ScaryBinary 05-11-2000, 05:24 PM I smoked a cigar once - I can't recall why.... My mouth tasted like an ashtray for 3 days and I never smoked again! Now Jack Daniels, that's another survey.... ScaryBinary Biff 05-11-2000, 06:21 PM Yeh, thats me, done it for 35 yrs. Its not a good idea, http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif believe me Warthog 05-11-2000, 06:34 PM In my high school health class we've watched videos about smokers and drug addicts.....believe me, I will never smoke or do drugs after seeing the lifestyle some of those seriously diseased people lead. I truly feel sorry for you guys who are having trouble with smoking http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif. Warthog codybear 05-11-2000, 06:57 PM 35 yrs of somkin and I now have COPD but quit 2 and a half yrs ago... people that smoke stink...I mean 'really' stink http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif BBA 05-11-2000, 07:02 PM I quit about 3 years ago. Yes,,,you may now call me a quiter! Warthog 05-11-2000, 07:09 PM Alright guys! Glad to see you too have quit. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Warthog thekingofpain 05-11-2000, 07:13 PM I smoke---not alot tho---I am a chronic pain sufferer, I have a "prescription" to use marijuana for pain relief, after a jillion pills, 10 major surgeries, bio-feedback, pain management, implanted TENS units, therapy of ALL types, and about 15 lbs of steel to hold my ***** together... a Dr prescribed medical marijuana, actually as a sort of last resort, (nothing else was working) and this was AFTER a 10 year period of constant medical treatment, believe me I would rather NOT smoke, this skunky, sparkley, sweet "medicine" WORKS, is all I can say... I hope none of you or your loved ones have to live a life of pain... *T http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif (I make the best of it tho!) Amarok 05-11-2000, 07:14 PM almost 20 years of smoking now and still going strong..... do not have the desire to quit at this time..... but will be doing it soon. Just going to go cold turkey when I do. Do not advise anyone to start... OuTpaTienT 05-11-2000, 07:22 PM I smoked for about 10 years (from age 19 - 29). I kinda tip-toed into to it for a couple years. When I was finally at the point where I had to officially consider myself a "smoker" I did so only after promising myself I'd quit before I'm 30. For some strange reason, that promise really stuck. A few months after turning 29 I was out of smokes one day, didn't really feel like going to buy more, so I figured now's the time. Haven't had one since. I'm 32 now. It seems that people who started smoking at an early age (11-14) have a really tough time quiting later in life. And those that started at a later age (18-20) seem to be more able to kick it. I dunno. I just know I wasn't smart enough NOT to smoke at all...but at least I was smart enought NOT to smoke the rest of my life. FrozenLiquidity 05-11-2000, 07:32 PM I am 17, have never smoked, and never will. I am too nerdy to smoke http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif M1pilot 05-11-2000, 07:37 PM Yeah, that's me.....started when I was 13 or 14. I quit at 43 and have'nt had one for over two years now. I feel better, for sure, but ****, I want a smoke!! Hopefully someday the craving will be stop. -M1pilot Idnew 05-11-2000, 07:37 PM Have smoked for 37 yrs. Have quit many times. It is a terrible habit and I will try to quit again, but I hate non-smokers or x smokers lecturing to me about something I already know. I discourage any young person I see from smoking. Wiz 05-11-2000, 07:37 PM i have smoked, but i dont get addicted to things(thank god!). I use them to calm me down, and that only happens when something catastrophic occur. Unsecured Loner 05-13-2000, 08:01 PM Here's an idea for you young ’uns. Instead of spending $2.50 (or whatever it is where you live) a day for a pack of cigarettes, put that money away and invest it in a good mutual fund. You'll be able to retire VERY comfortably by the time you're 50, probably earlier. At my age (43), I'd have to invest at least $80 per day to get the same return on investment. OuTpaTienT 05-13-2000, 08:55 PM You must not be a current smoker UL. The price of a pack of smokes (brand name/Camel) was just hitting $4.00 a pack when I quit...and that was three years ago!!! I must admit, the cost was partially a factor for me quiting. I mean, geeeeez, if I really need to waste money on drugs, there's better choices than nicotine. BBA 05-13-2000, 09:37 PM You know the funny thing.... I didn't quit because smoking was 'bad' per se... I quit because I just hated having to plan my day around where I could go without worrying about finding a place to smoke... Seems the idiots who claim it was killing them by second hand smoke just won the whole deal. I do like the fact that now I don't have to have nicotine to be able to think clearly, that was a problem before! OuTpaTienT 05-13-2000, 10:27 PM I like the fact that within only a couple days of quiting I could once again TASTE & SMELL things. I had no idea my senses where so dulled by smoking. daveleau 05-13-2000, 11:56 PM Glad to see so many that do not. I was an idiot and fell to peer pressure around 10yrs ago. I wax and wane in my smoking habits. Now I live with two guys that smoke so you can guess which part of the cycle I am in now... Dave Biff 05-14-2000, 03:20 AM Glad to hear some of you guys quit, I have tried, and failed badly, now I've quit quitting. I think the name of the game is not to start. tepo 05-14-2000, 04:05 AM OK, PCNerd, if I hear You've started smoking I will come and stuff the amount of camel cig's in Your a** I've smoked in 15 years. You'll live a nice life without cig's. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Tepo, smoker http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Stan 05-14-2000, 05:23 AM I have never smoked and I never will... Costs too much money and life... Stan catcow 05-14-2000, 06:08 AM I gave up a few years ago when my wife was pregnant. Just quit over night and it's the best thing i've ever done. Sharpy 05-14-2000, 05:37 PM I'm sad to say i've smoked for about 16 years and have asthma. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif Doctor's tell me i'll die of respireation failure before i'm 50 but i'm still to dumb to stop. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif Whatever happens i deserve it. PLEASE DON'T START!!! EDIT - Don't drink or do drugs, my only addictions are nicotine, caffiene and computers. [This message has been edited by Sharpy (edited 05-14-2000).] jadison 05-14-2000, 06:22 PM My mom has smoked since she was about 17, she's 44 now...I tried it once when I was 12, I had smoked about 8 cigarettes that day, then that night I thought to myself "this is stupid, there's no point in doing this and hurting my body, etc." So I told myself that would be the last cigarette I have ever smoked. So far, so good, I have no desire to smoke at all. 2nd hand smoking may be a prob. whenever i'm at home, but my mom is really concientous about not smoking around me. I've tried time and time again to get her to quit...she has dramatically limited the number of cig.s she smokes /day to ~5/day! My whole family on my Mom's side smokes, but I have seemed to have broken the chain. I have never done drugs before either. Now as far as alcohol goes, I'll have a drink with my Dad maybe once a month, but I never drink beer...it tastes like ****! Personally, I don't know anyone who drinks beer for the shear taste of IT. Anywayz, I'm pretty much a good kid...don't smoke, don't do drugs, don't drink beer, try not to get into trouble w/the LAW, and I got a future full of potential, I just gotta make it all work! Congrats to those who have quit successfully, and to those who haven't keep trying! -jd- SysOpt 05-14-2000, 06:42 PM BBA: so second hand smoke is harmless? It's like smoking without a filter - especially in smoke filled bars/restaurants. Never smoked, never will. I figure it makes as much sense as sucking on the tailpipe of a car. If someone smokes to calm them down or dispell chronic anxiety, there are more healthy ways of doing the same (getting in excellent shape, eating right, medications, etc.). jadison: I feel the same way about most liquor, except for mixed drinks.. Ummm, pina colada.. Ummm, margarita http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif. I like the non-alcoholic versions too but they don't have as much bite. I don't drink to get an effect from the alcohol though. [This message has been edited by SysOpt (edited 05-14-2000).] OuTpaTienT 05-14-2000, 07:29 PM You guys have never had REAL beer. If you ever make it to Germany you'll find plenty of beer worth drinking for the taste. [This message has been edited by OuTpaTienT (edited 05-14-2000).] dkozloski 05-14-2000, 08:14 PM I started smoking at the age of seventeen. Seven years later in April of 1964 I quit while smoking three packs a day; Phillip Morris Commanders and I was tearing off the filters. Now I can go at least 10 minutes without wanting a cigarette. Sharpy, My wife passed away November 1, 1999 from respiratory failure and she never smoked a day. Her problem was an autoimmune disorder. It is a terrible way to die. I wish I could impress on you how desperate your situation is. I would not wish that on anyone. If you can't quit for yourself please consider what you'll be putting your loved ones through. [This message has been edited by dkozloski (edited 05-14-2000).] mgordon99 05-14-2000, 08:34 PM I smoked from 15-19, quit cold-turkey, and I am now 35. Same thing with alcohol, although I do still enjoy a cold beer on a hot day once in a while, but that's it. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif ceedee 05-15-2000, 05:38 PM i do tried to give it up managed for 5 years went back we all have our monkey on our back this is mine GroundZero3 05-15-2000, 05:45 PM Im 17 i tried it once..... nothing immpressive about it i thought it tasted like ****.
