I need to make it so people have to login and have it authenicated by a main server. Anyone have a resource for learning how to create a user login domain?

It would help to know what OS you intend to use. If it's NT 4, just install and tell setup it will be a Domain Controller. If it's 2000, run setup, then use Dcpromo.

You'll be much better off to get some books and read up on this before trying it (unless you're just experimenting). There's a lot to take into consideration, and it's easier on you to know before you begin than to try to figure out what's going after the problems arise.

I am just experimenting so I can learn how to use it. It is my home network so if I screw it up no big deal. I was thinking about using Win2K since that is the only one I have besides 9x/ME stuff. I was looking for books type of things but online so I didn't have to go spend $50 right off.

It's relatively easy to set up, but the topic is quite extensive. For 2k, set up server and run Dcpromo to promote it to DC. From there, the concepts are quite involved.

I honestly recommend, if nothing else, you go to a larger bookstore, get an arm load of books on it, a cup of coffee, find one of their big leather chairs, and spend some time (or get a library card). I mean that in all honesty and I'm not trying to put you off. Your question is a good one but it's like asking for the 10 minute version of brain surgery... getting a knife in your hand and getting you to a brain is easy... but exactly what to do when you get there can be quite involved.

I must say, that was a good example. I figured that it was something more envolved but I was hoping that someone had a web source on it so I didn't have to go and get the books or spend the time at the bookstore reading but if that is what I must do then so be it.
