"Once in a while a musical force will burst on the scene and forever change that scene. Lynyrd Skynyrd was such a force. The power that rested in Allen Collins, Gary Rossington and Ronnie VanZant and the rest of the band can never be forgotten or underestimated. To this day, nearly two decades after the tragedy that decimated the original Skynyrd band, millions of fans still buy the records, feel the songs, understand the power".

I say the greatest song of all time would be "Freebird". However my Skynyrd favorites are "Tuesday's Gone" and "Simple Man".

I can't hear ya.... Still can't hear ya... what song is it you want to hear?...FREEBIRD!!!... I heard it then.

I cannot believe people would even attempt to put van halen, metallica, korn, or machine head as a top 10 greatest song of all time. I like that kind of music, but, c'mon, its not really that exciting.

btw, since you mentioned Ah-ha, I feel responsible to divulge what little I know about them:

Not long after that one and only song they're known for was released, they were invited to play in a European day long concert festival. Well, they were so new to the music scene, and since "Take on me" really was their ONLY hit (& almost their only song) that during their set they ended up playing that one song over 8 times!

And another thing,
Performing less than one year on the natioinal tour circuit, KISS blew away and embarrassed its headliners so much that these groups, fearing reputation damage as top-billing acts (and seeing most of the audience leave after KISS' encore), would not allow KISS to tour with them anymore.

...350000 copies were a great expectation, but less than two months after its release, Alive! ws certified Gold!

The greatest song of all time acording to my local radio station every single year is Led Zepplin's Stairway to Heaven.

Now, what was the greatest band of the last decade??

outpatient: I don't like A-HA (yes, that is the way it should be spelled), but since it is a Norwegian group and I'm Norwegian I do now some things about them. They actually had several rather big hits:

Take On Me
The Sun Always Shines On TV
Hunting High And Low
Stay On These Roads
Etc....

The Cult, "She sells sanctuary"
And of course any Toad the Wet Sprocket song.

K6-freak, are you familiar with Toad the Wet Sprocket's version of Rock and Roll All Night by KISS? I think it's way cool. It's totally done in their mello/acoustic style. I have the .MP3 if you want it.

and Glytzhkof, maybe those where hits in your country, but Take on Me is only one of those that was ever a "hit" in the U.S. Anyways, I meant no offense to them, their fan(s), or their countrymen,...just thought it was a humorous story.

The theme to SWAT.....
Or maybe, the original Highlander soundtrack.
How about Who Made Who, AC/DC.
Or, my all time favorite, Beethoven's Fifth Piano Concerto. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

jad1097 I was just kidding around. I tell my friends that all the time when we're in the car. and they tell me the same about my music.(jeez it's a real battle over any radio or cd player) just a friendly little jab. To everyone their own. just my opinion. and you of course are entitled to yours. This BBS and everyone other BBS is 99.999999 percent composed of opinions. sorry if I offended anyone. I will go back and edit it later. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Alright, since there seems to be more than just a couple people interested, I'm going to do something unprecedented...when I get home from work, I'll just run an Apache server and let you guys snag the .MP3 directly from my machine.

Be aware that I have a 128Kb/sec upstream limit. That translates in approx. 15KB/sec. So if more than a couple people are leeching at once it'll be kinda slow. If it's too slow for you, then try again later.

I'm tempted to make my entire mp3 library availble to you guys, but I just don't got that kinda time. With over 4GB of only choice .mp3s, you guys would have a field day. Instead, I will make avalible the directly that has the KISS Tribute CD only.

Check back here later tonight (after I get home from work) and I'll post the link to my IP address that'll let ya into my machine.

ps- and don't try anything funny, all activity will be completely logged, Zone Alarm will be running (I think) and I'll be watching you. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

bigslammer

geez outpatient 4gb of mp3's. that's gotta be some record. either you ahve around 1500 mp3's or they're encoded at a really high bit rate. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

OuTpaTienT
04-27-2000, 05:51 PM
I do have a lot at high bit rates. My bare minimum is 128bit, but prefer 160. I also have quite a few at 224, and at least one CD's worth at 320.

Anyways, for whomever wants it, you can go get the KISS Tribute mp3s here:
http://OuT.pinol1.sfba.home.com/
or http://24.15.83.226/

The "Toad" one is song number 5. Sorry you can't see the entire song title, but I don't got time to make everything all pretty 'n' fancy for ya, you'll just have to deal with it.

Let me know if you can't get through.

I just noticed, if you check the status bar while the mouse is hovering over a file you'll be able to read the whole song titles.

I'll be happy to send it to both ya guys (and anyone else who wants it) but I gotta warn ya, I'm sure it's a large file. Possibly too large for most free email accounts.

I'm not at home right now so I don't know the exact size, but it probably at least 4mb. I don't keep MP3s unless they're high quality (at least 128-160 bit). If it is too large, maybe I can post it to my web site and you can d/l it.

narayan, that song is from the "KISS my *** - KISS Tribute" CD. I think I have all the songs from the CD in MP3 format. It's various artist doing KISS songs. People such as:
Garth Brooks / Hard Luck Woman
Gin Blossoms / Chisteen Sixteen
Extreme / Strutter
Lemmonheads / Cold Gin
can't remember the rest.

Before somebody comes back w/ Lou Who??? I would just like to say that, Lou Reed is one of the greatest American songwriters that has ever lived. I rank him right up there w/ Neil Young (Canadian). Neither can sing or play a guitar worth a ****, but I would rather listen to them (at least try), than any of (what I consider) monotonous rap.
Lou Reed is the "Original Rapper."

OK, I must add to the madness!

...speaking of Madness, "Our House"
anything by Metallica or Rob Zombie
for some reason, "Africa" by Toto (I love it, don't know why...)
"More Than a Feeling" by Boston
and as if the previous two weren't cheesy enough, "Final Countdown" by Europe!

Stairway to Heaven is the greatest song. Not my favorite but the best song all-time. Best group would also be Led Zeppelin for being so timeless.

Favorite current song is Nicotine and Gravy by Beck.
