Okay.. anyway.. I got a ATX case, c366, Asus p2-99 mb (new rev of the p2 series same as the p2b but with 1 less pci and 2 ram slots, which I don't mind, since I have a 64 meg stick and if I ever add more it'll be a lot.. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif)

Anyway..

The computer place I got it from installed those parts(local computer store - laumar computers... pretty friendly place.. boxed parts., pretty good canadian prices.)

Well let me get to the subject here

When I got it, I put in some components (vid, cd, hd,( very carefully.. I've put in lots of cards.) plugged it in to see if it would turn on..... It turns on for like 1/2 second, power light in the front comes on, then it shuts off. Took everything out and again same thing. Now, I asked a tech at Laumar, they told me I hadn't set the voltage or something? Well anyway I looked at the manual and the jumpers looked okay.
I called them back, another guy said the voltage was auto and said the cpu speed had to be set. (I thought all this stuff would have been done.) I looked, told him everything looked okay, and he said take it back there and he'd take a look at it.

All the 6 main jumper settings (voltages, cpu speed, bus, etc.) were already set.

I'm not an expert on the makings of the motherboard or if the power plugs are in right, so does anyone have any idea what the problem might be?

(I doubt I fryed the board. Atleast, I was always grounded, and I never even touched the motherboard.)

Any thoughts? I've never really built a system before, only installed and moved hd and such.

That's alot of hardware to be installing at the same time. Installing one piece at a time will allow you to know which hardware is the culprit. Much easier to troubleshoot. Sorry I don't have a better answer.

the only things that are in there are cpu, ram, and mb.

I took the other things out. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Last board I had that acted like that was D.O.A.

Sad, but true. I spent 4 hours trying to get that FIC 503+ to start, even manually shorting the ATX power connector, nada. Just a flicker on initial power-on, and then zip.

Not likely to be your power supply suddenly dying, most likely to be an ex-motherboard which has run up the curtain and joined the heavenly choir.
