I recently got into a debate about the meaning of the two words and apparently I offended the person I was debating with. They consulted all their computer expert friends and websites...I was told I was nuts and wrong....period.
I always took flaming as meaning to get your inbox stuffed completely full with meaningless and probably nasty messages and usually from one sender.
Spam to me is unsolicited e-mail, usually ads and the latest greatest MLM...stuff like that.
What are your opinions?
I'll crawl back into my deep dark and cold hole now.

Spam....Is Unsolicited e-mail (you were correct)
Flaming......is a "cut down" or "bad mouthing" someone on a public bbs.
Thats my understanding on it http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Sounds right to me. I would also like to add that Fwd: is Spam. Also I find what I want on the net when I want it. I don't have time to look at junk that is Fwd: around the web like the boy in China who is going to die if we don't pray for him, and please Fwd: this if you do you will become rich beyond your wildest dreams. It is all junk to me!!!

I hate the 3 page forward lists too. I give my friends two words when I get 'em..CUT and PASTE! If they don't heed after that, the next FWD gets deleted. Man, I'm a hardass sometimes http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

Mntsnow is bang on with the definitions.
as for FWD into the trash it goes and a warning letter to the friend.... no more forwards or they get setup on the email screener. and then I dont see the email period.

I had a fried Spam sandwich for lunch today, but no flames were involved as I cooked it on an electric stove.
Have you fried your Spam today?
not all forwards are bad. I forward a bunch of stuff i get to friends who need it.

Friend of mine has an e-mail in hotmail, and he is not into computers and e-mails, he just knows how to open them and/or reply. So I was checking my e-mail once and he said to me: "You know, I sometimes get e-mails which are 3+ pages long and I get a bunch of them. Do you know why this is?" I explained to him what spam was and he lost all his respect for M$. BTW, he read those long e-mails every time he got them and PROBABLY forwarded them. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I thought spam had something to do with Monty Python? Ok, just kidding, perhaps I should change my name to Biff the Britt.
