Are they in the same workgroup? IP range? File sharing turned on?

HAd the same problem both at home and at many many LAN parties!
We never got the Win2K systems to see the Win9x systems and vice versa.

We installed TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, BetBeui everything!

I believe that with Win2000, one of the PC's must be set up as a "Browse Master". I haven't tried this under Win2000 so the sequence of events described below may be different, but, you'll get the picture.

Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
Double-click Network, click "File and printer sharing for Microsoft Networks" on the Configuration tab, and then click Properties.
In the Property box, click 'Browse Master', click Enabled in the Value box, click OK, and then click OK.
Click Yes when you are prompted to restart your computer.

Hope this helps,

Richard

There is no "Properties" box for file and printer sharing using ICS in Win2K pro. I can see the 98se computer only by doing a computer search. Made a shortcut to the 98 computer and put it on my desktop. Screw the neighborhood. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif
Got the 98se machine to see my 2k machine by installing netbeui on both and then Uninstalling same from both. Weird!
There have to be some admin settings that I am missing, but I have enough access both ways to suit my purposes.
Make sure you create a user account on the 2K machine that is the same as the user and password for Client for MS Networks on the 98se job.

We tried static and automatic IPs, we tried finding it in the Net. Neigh., we tried finding it by searching for computers, we even tried finding the other computer by pinging it's IP and searching for it!
NOTHING

Have you tried using the run command with static IPs and say your range is 192.168.0.1-10, try typing at the run command line

//192.168.0.n
n=valid computer IP
If not luck then...
Also, try setting up the win98's in LMHOSTS under TCP/IP advanced WINS and also enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP
These steps worked for me
