Image Editors

What is the best image editor that is *free*. I will need it for webpage graphics and such.

The GIMP.

It stands for the GNU Image Manipulation Program, and it's available for Linux and other *NIX natively, and there is a fairly good port of it to windows that is available here:

Give it a try. It's really quite good for the price (free!).

http://WWW.JASC.COM has a shareware version of Paint-Shop Pro that you can download.

Found that to be one of the better free ones I've run across.

My linux buddies swear by the GIMP. I did not know they ported in to windows I will give it a shot. I was also wondering where I could find paint shop pro shareware. Thaks.

I use Ulead's Photo Impact 5 for my photo editing. I don't own it but use the 30 day trial version. Will probably buy it eventually. I found that it is MUCH more easy to use than PSP 6. I'm not kidding. I'd recommend it to anyone.

GIMP is by far the best. Its better than most which are not free, as a matter of fact.

My favorite is a program called ThumbsPlus, from Cerious Software (http://www.cerious.com).

Irfview gets my vote. Fast and impressive capabilities for a free (totally free) program. I've got some folders w/thousands of jpg's and the Irfview thumbnail module is a very easy way of managing files.

Is the Cerious program free? I used it for a while a few years ago and it was impressive but not free.
