Out of curiosity, what are you trying to accomplish with this connection? You aren't hoping that he can take advantage of your cable speed are you?

Have you configured your computer to act as a DHCP server? Have you created an account on your box for him to actally log into your network? How do you have his tcp/ip configured?

No, how do i configure my computer to act as a DHCP server?

Yes, I have created an account on my box for him to actally log into my network (ie, his (client) system dials into my system through Dial-up Networking. He was able to log on. The two-green-monitor icon on the taskbar came up and the connection speed was somewhere between 35-40kbps (i know it's just windows **** http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

How do i configure his TCP/IP?

Thanks

Hi,

I have cable. i also have the regular 56k modem. I want to let my friend dial into my system (running Win98se Dialup Server) and access the internet through it. You may say that i want to act as a dial-in router or an one client ISP or something.

I had some success. I setup both the systems 4 dial-up connection to my system. When we diale from his system, it logged on to my system and all... but even though i tried winipcfg , he din't get an ip address. IE also said that the system is not connected to the internet.

By this time u might have understood that my knowledge about networking is only below the bare minimum. Anyway, i have a strong feeling that what i am trying to do is possible.

Please provide ur valuable suggestions and opinions.

Btw, i have winNT 4 SP6 on multiboot.

Thanks

Well since you are running Win98se and are using ICS (internet connection sharing) it should have created you a "client" diskett that you would load onto his machine that would "automagicly" setup the configuration. (basically setting it up to receive an IP from your box (DHCP) and setting your box's ip up as the Gateway and making sure that you are both on the same subnet and domain
