I have two computers with ethernet cards connected to a hub. They both will successfully connect to the net(each has its own ISP address). Although I have enabled file sharing on both, only one computer shows up on network neighborhood. Both are running Windows 98, but when I right click on drive C(on the computer NOT showing on network neighborhood), the option to share it does not even appear on the list. Can anyone help?

Be sure that you have file and printer sharing turned on for both computers. Also, be warned that if you are using TCP for the sharing protocol, others on the net may be able to do things to your system. Be careful.

Whew!!!!

Have to agree with knucklebusted 2000%

Are you using firewall? and are you enabling the sharing for the 2 pc's or others?

Dangerous thing compadre!

If using firewall ie: Black Ice, Zone Alarm you can add the each computers IP address into the Trusted Sites [or simular] through the Firewall Program.

Hope that helps,
SB

I appreciate everyone's concern for security, but I haven't got anything on my hard drives but a few programs and a lot of MP3's. I really need to move some MP3's to the new computer. Hence, the reason for my question. Perhaps some one can give me a link to an in-depth step-by-step on networks? It looks very simple, but the one won't work. I'm concerned there may be missing/ corrupted files that are causing the problem. Any more help?

Use NETBEUI instead of TCP/IP for you local network

That information is at...

I agree about not binding File & Print Sharing to TCP/IP (bind to something else like NETBEUI since it isn't routable). This is regardless of the perceived impact directly on you, you should should try to maintain "due diligence".
