And is it your 'primary logon'? mburak 12-14-2000, 09:29 AM yes Jim999 12-14-2000, 09:34 AM Make sure file sharing is enabled, and try Start - Run - \\computername\share from one computer to the other. If you get an error, post it here and we might be able to figure out what's happening. mburak 12-14-2000, 09:46 AM Can not find Group 3 (pc name) Jim999 12-14-2000, 09:57 AM Some details might help here. What are the 2 computer's names? What is the name of a share on each of them? Are you prompted to log onto the computer when it boots or does it go directly to the desktop? Try the Start Run \\<<insert computername here>>\share from computer a to computer b, then again from computer b to computer a What are the error messages from each? DVNT1 12-14-2000, 10:11 AM Another approach could be adding the TCP/IP protocol and IP addresses. Then you could test basic connectivity (ping) that could quickly rule out cabling, workgroups, etc... mburak 12-14-2000, 10:20 AM PC name are Group 3 and Amd What is the name of a share on each of them What do you mean by this? When I run Start\Run\Group 3 (other pc name) I get can't find file Group or one of its componets check path ect.. Jim999 12-14-2000, 10:25 AM You can't have a space in a computer name. Rename it to something like amd2 (for testing). Then, go to My Computer, choose your c drive, make a directory called share, right click that directory and choose sharing. The defaults will do fine. Then go to the other computer, Start Run \\amd2\share and let's see what happens. If file sharing is not enabled, there will not be a Sharing option when you right click the directory you made. You'll need to enable file sharing if that is the case. How are the net cards connected... thru a hub or directly vis a crossover cable? mburak 12-14-2000, 10:43 AM Still says can't find amd\share or one of its componets. Jim999 12-14-2000, 10:49 AM Are you putting two backslashes in front of the computer name? In the run box of the computer named amd, you should have \\amd2\share exactly like that. And you should have created the directory named share on each computer and shared it. mburak 12-14-2000, 11:31 AM With the \\ it open up share!! mburak 12-15-2000, 12:56 AM I have both machines seeing the share folder on they own harddrive but not each others DVNT1 12-15-2000, 05:20 AM Please try my approach I post to you earlier. Then I may be able to help you troubleshoot. eicken 12-17-2000, 05:16 AM Try these sites www.helmig.com (http://www.helmig.com) http://hdallen.home.mindspring.com/ Very informative on networking Hope this may help you bdunn 12-17-2000, 05:34 AM Are the two directly attached or are you using a hub. If they are directly attached make sure you are using a crossover not a striaght thru cable. eicken 12-17-2000, 05:52 AM Maybe you have a bad crossover cable? I am using NetBEUI for my LAN. I have file and print sharing enabled and Client for Microsoft. They are only bound to NetBEUI. This way my system is not open to the internet just my internal network. Also make sure the NIC's are bound to the proper protocol. Seems to work very well. Please let us know when you get up and running and what you did? Thanks eicken 12-17-2000, 05:19 PM This site was posted as a reply to another question by another member. My server can see everything my client shares, but my client can't see anything :/ I'm using WinME and the server just won't show up in Network Neighborhood. If I click "entire network" nothing shows up on the client. But if I do it on the server, the @MyHouse group shows up and both comps are there! ???? I don't get it. If I try the "Start-run-\\Laptop" on the server, everything pops up in a window. If I do "Start-run-\\HomePC" everything also pops up...what am I missing??? mburak 12-18-2000, 06:54 PM I would like to thank everyone for their help! Finally figured it out. WRONG CABLE!! socalgal 12-18-2000, 09:55 PM In the future, only ONE thread per topic, please. Thanks. SysOpt.com
