ICQ # being used on another computer?

What? How is that possible? I know there are hackers, but I thought they could only get to the people with low numbers...

Then I got the warning message in the title...
What does this mean exactly and what should I do?

Man that is rough. Is there anyone that moderates ICQ members? There has to be. I would contact them and tell them. Sorry I have no better advise.

Apostle thats a tuff one... no easy answer except contact ICQ. You'll probably have to set up a new account but copy your address book to file first.

This really pisses me off-I thought i was talking to an associate today, and all of the sudden I start getting messages like

Pisses me off so bad, these people can just rot in hell...

yeah, that does suck. i haven't had it happen to me (knock on wood) so i haven't checked to see what channels there are to go through to get your number back. these are not hackers that do this, though. these are the worthless script kiddies that feed off of the 'point-n-click' programs that make them appear to be digital geniuses. they're a dime a dozen, as are the websites where they demonstrate how their lack of knowledge is only surpassed by their inability to spell. i do not believe in using the web as a forum for hate towards anyone, nor do i approve of any measures whatsoever (especially those of janet reno) to attempt and establish policing of the internet .... but i do my best to give these guys and their websites hell every chance i get.

Well, if it's any consolation, I just got that message 3 times in the past 5 minutes (getting kicked off every time, of course).

I just changed my pass... maybe that will help--only time will tell.

Psyklone is right on with his post. It is the little cracker kiddies that cause these types of problems. They can download something from rootshell, and instantly believe they own the net. Here's how they think:

"Look, I can enter an IP, and press click to crash a system. Cool, I'm now a l33t HaXor like JeffK!!!!!"

The little idiots usually don't even understand what their doing. The true "hacking" community even considers them to be outcasts, and severely annoying. They are the main reason people have quit IRC and Usenet. I get tired of dealing with these idiots, but they keep coming back for more. You think they would get the message when someone has to format their harddrive for them http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif.

At any rate, I hope you get everything fixed Apostle.

Apostle 83 - they usually only go after the low numbers on icq but can get to any of them.... yes the are a pain in the @$$. black ice and zone alarm go off all day long....
