I have a LAN set up at home. The wierd problem is that when my client PC is on the network using the proxy to access the internet. It will reboot the server sometimes. I was thinking it had something to do with the WOL setting in BIOS so I disabled it, but the problem still occurs. I am using Fortech's Proxy+ for a proxy and Zone Alarm with the Win2k patch, Running on Win2K pro, with win 98se as the client. I have straight cat5 through the wall, straight cat5 to my machine and x-over to the client. Any ideas on what could be causing this? I have also run a Virus scan using Norton with the latest updates and it shows nothing. This is a cleanly formatted drive with Win2kPro about 9 hours old. Thanks for all the help.

Just a quick Update I disabled WOL and anything related to Power Saving in the bios, set my power switch to 4 sec off and replaced the 250 watt PS with a 300 Watt PS. I am still getting the problem. It never happens on my machine( the server) so I don't think it has anything to do with the memory or anything hardware related. I am using SMC1211tx 10\100 nics in both computers. I had to load the drivers in WIN98SE but am using the default drivers in WIN2KPRO, could this have something to do with it? Thanks in Advance

OK I have reinstalled the drivers for my NIC under WIN2KPRO and am still getting the same problem. After about ten to fifteen minutes on the client pc my server will reboot. Also I was thinking that maybe there was a short of some kind in the cables, but I can ping the server from the client for a couple of hours with no problems or slowdown. Guys I am really stumped here and could use a little help.

IMHO it does seem that you have either a short in the x over cable or a bad NIC...it does seem weird but a short will cause a reboot ..

I may be in left field here but: right click on My Computer/System Properties/Advanced and see if automatically reboot is checked off. Uncheck it and see if it happens again.
Your computer may be crashing for some unknown reason and if it does check your event viewers system and application logs to see if there is any STOP errors that may lead you to the problem.
If it still reboots then there may be STOP messages there that can lead you to the problem. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif
