Thanks in advance spickee 09-06-2000, 04:10 AM There is a company called Eurosky offering this service. www.eurosky.net. (http://www.eurosky.net.) I looked at this a while ago, but decided to wait for adsl and cable modems. Still haven't taken the plunge though. Moving house in a couple of weeks and I still have my old sky dish so I might look at this now. If you get it first let me know how you do. Spickee TOAD6147 09-06-2000, 04:37 AM From what I've read in the past satellite is only good for downloading. To upload you still have to have a modem and phone line. That SUCKS! mourikise 09-06-2000, 06:32 AM Hi, Yes TOAD6147, this is true. But, only a small percentage of the traffic is outgoing. I mean, when browsing, every 10MB of download, you send only 500KB! So, according to my opinion a satelite link is the optimal solution, even for large companies. Whoever wants to buy such a connection has to know one thing. The data is sent through the dialup (or leased line) while they are received by the satelite connection. In case of firewalls or proxys one has to know about routing to setup such a connection. In case of single computers each card is acompanied by software that does this in a more automatic way. The only problem is that one has to ensure that this software will run under his OS (warning Linux users!). Here in Greece I know of 2 companies (which, I think, have dealers all over Europe), which unfortunately I don't remember right now http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif I'll have a look at my notes and if I find anything I will repost. MadMatt 09-06-2000, 08:12 AM It's a great solution for browsing, but not for other things like video conferencing or on-line gaming. SpookyEddy 09-06-2000, 12:21 PM Thanks for the info. SysOpt.com
