I need help to setup a stand-alone printer. No pc attached. What do I need to make it happen? i.e. NIC, ip address......?

Hi,

Can you please tell us what you want the printer to print? For example if you want to print a list of the persons that accessed a place using some kind of access card this would depend on the access control system you will attach the printer to.

So, could you please provide more info on that so we can be more helpful?

You just need an external print server. HP's JetDirect 300x supports most printers. Their 500x will support 3. Their 170x has issues with some.

sorry, I guess I didn't make myself clear enough. I want to setup a network printer. And I want everybody to printer to it.

Hi,

Mr.Goodbytes is right. You can use an external print server. However, you can also configure the file server (if there is one) to spool the print tasks, while the printer is connected to its parallel port. To do this just install the printer on it and then share it. In this case you don't need an external print server.

Yes you will need an external print server. Some device I am using an Intel on now on a Ricoh afficio 200/250 printer. And have had some "minor" problems.
