think i got this figured out a bit more but still need more help i think i will probely get a linksys cable router but the question is with the 4 way i will have no problem and can hook everything just up to that but with the 1 way i could plug my modem into the router then run a hub off a the router and connect the pcs to the hub?? i am right there
also just one more thing when i hook both computers up they will have 1 ip so if i wanted to run icq and stuff on both computers would i have to use a firewall on one so it would recieve seperate messages??
i need help thanx

I don't know about ICQ because I don't use it, but you have the rest of it right. Either LinkSys will work like you said.

I just got a netgear rt314 (w 4 way hub) and my friend has the rt411 (1 way). from the info we gto from http://www.timhiggins.com , the router/hub (314) had quicker transfers than the router (311) only (at least with the netgear products). this site has good reviews, Look into the netgear rt314.

The speed on both would depend on what type of Hub you are connecting to the router, The Router/switch (4-way as you put it) would be a better bet than a (1 way) with a regular hub on it, If you currently have a SwitchHub with more than 4 ports on it, get the (1-way router) and connect it to that, If not get the 4 port router
