Question about long and short filenames

I was burning a cd that had a bunch of files with long names, but after the cd was done, I noticed they all had short file names 8.3 with ~1 on each of them. can I view them as there long file name? or, am I just going to have to rename these and then enable longname support on my cd writer software.

To use long file names on a CD, you have to write it with support for long file names, called Joliet standard, turned on. You probably didn't enable it and so burned 8.3 file names. You'll have to enable it in burning software.
