Hi! I'm an employee at a local library, and i'm setting up the new computers we just got. We have one comp running WinNT Server with a dialup and I want to make it a Gateway for all the other NT boxes... How do I do this? In win98SE and 2K it's so easy, just click a checkmark... but on NT it's totally different!? Can somebody help me or direct me to a site with a good walkthru??

BTW, I'm using NT4 Server and I have 4 NT4 workstations, all with service pack 5 and IE 5.

thanx!!!

Hi acid_burn~187,

To set the gateway on the client computers right-click to Network Neighborhood -> Protocols -> TCP/IP Properties -> Default Gateways. There put the IP address of the server (the internal one).

Also, I would suggest that you use DHCP. It makes your life much easier and you can control the IPs by the server. If you already had DHCP you could go to DHCP Manager, add the Gateway and next time a client would logon you would have the settings you want, without making the changes at each client separately. Think about it...

Without additional software, using the servers IP as the gateway will do nothing for the clients. Their is no built-in NAT/Proxy software on NT4 and just adding the servers IP in the gateway box of the clients will have no affect. Sygate, Winproxy are a couple of popular software proxy servers. Proxy 2.0 is the Microsoft offering and works well for my office. May be expensive, have not priced it myself.
