Szech 05-07-2000, 05:55 PM Feels like it was just yesterday, I wanted help fixing my computer, and I searched for some online help, and found my way here. Turns out I wasn't assigning an IRQ to my AGP. What's your story? Paul V 05-07-2000, 05:59 PM I found this place in interesting times, we shall say http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif. We had a little inter-board misunderstanding and I joined to smooth things out, liked the place, and stayed. Mntsnow 05-07-2000, 06:26 PM I found SysOpt one day when I was just cruzin around...Liked what I saw...lurked for a long time and then finally joined...been hooked ever since http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Glad you stayed too Paul http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Mntsnow Paul V 05-07-2000, 06:30 PM Thank you http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif I like the place, I wish I had the time to post and read the forums here more often... Think it wasa linux site...slashdot.com or something like that (?). Don't go there anymore..only here and the register. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Paul wtp 05-07-2000, 06:45 PM my friend that recently got kicked out (wtf) if you know who he was, gave me the link here. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif wtp socalgal 05-07-2000, 06:59 PM CMonster told me about SysOpt http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif I lurked for a couple months til I finally got the nerve to post, lol. Glad also that you stuck around, Paul. Best Wishes on those finals. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Chainsaw 05-07-2000, 07:42 PM I think it was an Alta-Vista search on Overclocking that got me here, just couldn't ever leave. (Of course, I use Google now) Socalgal, somehow I just can't picture you not posting, lol ("a couple of months"...not) http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif c:::CHNsaw seti 05-07-2000, 07:48 PM Poll: How did you find your way to SysOpt? (http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/Forum1/HTML/003635.html) Amarok 05-07-2000, 09:19 PM One of the guys here at work told me about it.... I too lurked for a while and got hooked to it I guess. bhess 05-07-2000, 09:30 PM I was building a system and having trouble. I think I was at another site and clicked the "what's related" button in netscape and found sysop. Paul V 05-07-2000, 09:47 PM Thanks socalgal http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif Man, I am stressed. I woke up at 4 am this morning to recall I never handed in my assignment for CS (which has always been due on fridays). I leaped from bed at 4 AM to finish it and submit it, 2 days late, then I saw the due date was advanced to monday to give us all a bit more time. I was sooooo relieved. But my one major final paper that is due tues is almost done. And my other paper revision I have for tues should be no big deal. Then the exams... ah well I only have 3 actual exams... so when these PROJECTS are over I will be more or less OK. CMonster 05-07-2000, 10:11 PM It was waaaaaay back when; - I did a search of "system optimization" and found Sysopt... I read the articles/guides, explored the links - for the longest time NOTHING changed ~sigh but then Scott began to show an interest again...finally The board didn't look anything like it does now ..once I had become thoroughly convinced that there might actually be intelligent life elsewhere in the universe I decided to try the BBS (I should note here that my previous experience with anything like a "BBS" was on "AOL" so I wasn't sure about the inteligence part). I soon found myself posting questions and offering my weak 2 cents worth - then I was hooked! I began learning in leaps and bounds. About the time I had 300 posts the board crashed and I went to 0, I continued in my ferver often annoying my BBS peers and got almost 680 more posts under my belt - and guess what happened? CRASH - That time Scott posted back something to the effect that he had been up all night rebuilding the hard disk information... woe is me I was a Jr. again.... somewhere along the way came the "Ultimate BBS" and the rest as they say, "is history." U know whoo you are... I won't mention any names here but I did refer a few people here. As I remember, one person in particular (again, I will not mention any names) who was found struggling in an AOL chat room trying to get a relatively simple trojan off "their" system (it amounted to removing a "load=" line from win.ini and deleting the file it refered to). Once this trojan was disabled, this grateful person had an insatiable desire to understand "FAT32" it seems they wanted to convert their drive but had Win95A as their OS. Being unable to explain FAT32 in exquisite detail (and to their satisfaction) I think that is when I suggested that this person, who was driving me a little batty over FAT32, post a query to the Sysopt BBS. Since then I have learned to tweak my budgie as well. lol Great place for learning all sorts of things and friendly helpful knowledgable people. seti 05-08-2000, 01:02 AM And we all thank you for bringing that person here CMonster. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif SysOpt 05-08-2000, 01:56 AM You have to explain the significance of your user name, CMonster http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif CMonster 05-08-2000, 08:32 AM For the record: "I was a little upset and concerned about privacy when we were required to register to use the new "Ultimate" BBS - and I voiced my frustration in the forum - then certain system administrators suggested that I could even register as the "Cookie Monster," if I so desired. He assured me that all persomal information was optional and furthermore explained that even the email address just had to LOOK authentic. ...and so there you have it "CMonster" - and I love that name... only wish the "C" was for programing language. BTW - all the information I gave is true - try emailing me sometime - I do answer. akaBruno 05-08-2000, 08:49 AM I think a link brought me here. I was being ignored and chastised at another forum for being a K6er (if you're not Intel goto Hell attitude), and found a more open and friendly bunch here. I enjoy the camaraderie and friendly competion. Thanks to all, Bruno BTW, I still frequent that other forum to refer people here. Gutter Ball 05-08-2000, 09:06 AM I'm with Chainsaw...I was looking to overclock and found this place on Yahoo! I think. And wouldn't ya know it...there was another user (Scotter) trying to do the same thing, with VERY similar equipment, at the same time! That was cool. He helped me alot. Now I check almost daily for new posts and stuff http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif SysOpt.com
