I fianlly have two machines in my house and obviously next I want to build a network and share a single 56K modem installed on one of the machine..(the faster one). The issue that I am concerned with is that if I am sharing the modem will browsing be more of a hassle?

What I have in mind is to create a NT environment and then install RAS on the NT server. That should create my gateway for the network ...right?

So is there a way to browse the net sharign a single modem and still not compromise on the connection speed ? Please help ....

Well if you use a proxy there will be some slow down in browsing ..only if both computers are accessing the Internet at the same time. But if you are really concerned about browsing speeds you can always get a LAN modem they cost a little be more than regular modems but they are good at doing load handling.. I'm not sure about the NT stuff.. never used NT.

Windows NT, even the server version, although it can provide IP forwarding services, AFAIC do not provide a NAT (Network Address Translator), which is essential for the second PC (the one without a modem) to access the internet. You will need a third party program to do this. I believe WinGate is such a program.
