Ok, i'm certain people have run into this problem before. On my home network, there are about 6 computers. 5 of them run win 98. but my laptop has win 2000 on it. When i'm trying to browse the network from my laptop. it literally takes 50-60 seconds to view the information on another computer, but when i'm browsing with one of the win 98 computers it only takes a matter of seconds. Can somebody please tell my why this is? any way to solve this annoying problem? thanks

Your other computers have already looked over the network while the network is new territory to the laptop. I don't know a work around, I just let the laptop search out the "new" network.

I dont have an answer for you just a confirmation that you are not the only one. On my comps 98 searchs network fast and 2000 is a dog, only thing I can think of is the security overhead or we are not configured properly somewhere.

thanks abill and cyclone2,
i think that you are right cyclone2, either we don't have something configured right, or it just takes 2000 forever to browse a 98 computer (which does sound strange to me). I hope that somebody knows a setting somewhere that can speed this up becvause it's rather frustrating.
thanks

I'd like to see a fix for it too http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I have two Win95 boxes that are opposites of each other when it comes to browsing the network. One sees everything right away while the other one takes a while. Both were set up as near identically as I could but they act like totally different systems http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
