What's the most soundless desktop configuration?

I'm using a pc for recording and playing music and need to reduce the noise level.

The ideal system is the pocketPc or palm. Completely silent but to weak for my needs.

Close is a laptop but I rather be able to upgrade components when necessary.

I want to build a desktop system with the low noise and auto-powerdown features of a laptop. Is there a case-motherboard-cpu combination out there that meets my needs?

Well, I'd get a silent PSU from http://www.pcpowerandcooling.com/
and then get a slow hard drive like a Quantum Bigfoot (4500rpm). I'm not sure about auto-shut down, but I'd get an Abit VA6, a Celeron366 and an Alpha. Take the fan off the Alpha and just use the heatsink.

Have you thought about enclosing a standard PC in a sound-proof case of some sort? You would need provisions for accessing the drives and a source of cooling air, but I doubt that it would be too hard to come up with something.
