Gonna be building a 1G coppermine

Just as the title says... My boss has some supply of coppermines (including 1G's), and within the next 2~3 weeks, it's my job to build us a server and some workstations in the new office (we're movin' on up http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif). As much as I think these chips are jokes, I must admit that I'm somewhat anxious to see what they're like. Heck, I've read every review of them, and they really do seem ridiculous... Strapping on that oversized heatsink... Putting in the external heatsink... And so on. I think I'll put in a removable oven rack so I can make beef jerky while I work! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif
Anyway, I'm thinking the main server is going to be dual G's running NT or 2K (computing decisions were left up to me). So needless to say, I'm pretty stoked! Hey, when I'm done, I'll run Sandra and post some pics!

I wish i could play with something more than a PIII 500, that is what we have where i work. I have a K6-2 450 O/Ced to 500 and now i read that intel is coming out with the Itanium soon. 64bit, three levels of cache running at clock speed (4megs of Level 3!!!!)and running on a mobo with 400 FSB!!!!
Oh well, i guess i will never be able to catch up or even get close.

For a server they will be much better then the athlon,that is only because of the very mature intel based business chipsets out there................why not dual xeon pIII?

Oblivion: Don't the Xeons not go as fast? The fastest one is 800 Mhz, right? Actually, now that I think about it, those 2 Megs of L2 probably would be pretty nice... I'll ask if we have any, and if we do, I'll set both of them up and compare.

Geez, you guys are talking about 1 Ghz processors, and PIII's, and I'm stuck here with a K6-233 and my MOBO is maxed on processor size!
