I live a long way from the phone company's switch and my connection is so slow it seems like as often as not web pages time out before they load. I usually connect at 24,000 bps, but the thoughtput is often a lot less (as low as 9,000 bps) depending on the time of day I check it (on sites like Toast.net).

I have a 3 computer network. All three have linksys 10/100 cards connected through a linksys 5 port auto switching hub. I'm running Windows 98se and sygate 3.11. I can dial and access the internet connection from the "client" machines. The server has a brand new US Robotics 56K ISA faxmodem. (It didn't help.)

Other than DirecPC there aren't any options available for a faster connection. After fighting with it for 2 weeks (turned out the lnb was bad and the 2.0 software that came with it doesn't work with Windows 98 se) I finally got it working on the "server" machine. The problem is that the "client" machines can't see DirecPC.

DirecPC says it works with SyGate, but "we don't support 3rd party software" and even their supervisors can't tell me how to configure their software to work with Sygate. The best I could get out of them is a suggestion to change to Tiny Software's WinRoute. (Tiny Software suggested their GameRouter product.)

I sent an e-mail request for help to Sygate, but the last time I had a problem it took a 2nd e-mail after 8 days to get them to respond. (Their support sucks.) I'm sure it's a simple, stupid configuration problem, but I'm frustrated and confused. And I'm getting real tired of waiting.

Has anyone had any experience networking DirecPC? How did you make it work? Can anyone offer advice on how to configure Sygate and DirecPC to work with each other? Should I dump Sygate and install GameRouter? Has anyone used GameRouter or WinRoute? Any help/comments will sure be appreciated. Thanks, Rick

Never used sygate, but we used Winproxy with our DirecPC connection before getting a T-1. Had no problems at all.
